Tax-day calm planner
Move a bill, payments on account already made, and what you have put aside. The page shows 31 January 2027, 31 July 2027, and a monthly amount until January.
Worked example, the default: with a 2025–26 bill of £4,250 and no payments on account made, you pay about £6,375 on 31 January 2027 (the £4,250 balance plus a first £2,125 payment on account for 2026–27) and £2,125 on 31 July 2027. With £4,960 put aside you are £1,415 short for January. Each payment on account is half the previous bill when that bill is £1,000 or more.
When does MTD for Income Tax apply?
Qualifying income is self-employment plus property, before expenses, in the tax year two years earlier.
The short answer. MTD for Income Tax applies by qualifying income:
- Over £50,000: from 6 April 2026
- Over £30,000: from 6 April 2027
- Over £20,000: from 6 April 2028
- £20,000 or less: no start date published yet
Thresholds as published by HMRC and repeated from the design. [PH] verify against the rules register. Budget sensitivity applies. Holm keeps digital records. It does not file MTD for Income Tax.
VAT registration threshold
The sample on Holm Accounting watches rolling turnover against £90,000. At £81,240 the illustration says you could pass it in about 11 weeks at a recent pace. That card is a design fixture, not your turnover. What counts towards the threshold should be checked on GOV.UK. [PH] verify the £90,000 figure and what to include
A full VAT threshold tool is not a separate page yet. The answer above is the plain-text version.
Straight answers.
Are the tools advice?
No. They are illustrations of published rules, with the answer written out in plain text. They are not advice and the thresholds are not signed off. [PH]
Do they use my real books?
No. The planner on the accounting page uses the numbers you move on the sliders. Nothing is uploaded.
